Los Angeles, CA – Diplo has prevailed in a legal dispute involving a woman he says harassed him following the end of a sexual relationship in 2020, according to TMZ and confirmed by Pitchfork. The DJ and music producer, whose legal name is Thomas Wesley Pentz, initiated an arbitration proceeding accusing the woman of violating a mutual restraining order agreement signed in January 2021.
An arbitrator reviewing arguments from both parties sided with Diplo, recommending that the Los Angeles Superior Court award him over $1.2 million in legal fees, damages, costs, and expenses.
Background on the Dual Restraining Orders
In November 2020, the woman initially secured a temporary restraining order against Diplo. A month later, Diplo obtained a reciprocal order against her. These orders were formalized into a dual restraining order agreement, which remains in effect.
Ongoing Civil Litigation
Both Diplo and the woman have filed lawsuits against each other. Diplo’s lawsuit alleges stalking, trespassing, and the nonconsensual distribution of explicit images, claiming the woman shared nude photos with his friends, family, and on social media.
In response, the woman filed a countersuit alleging sexual battery and gender violence. She claims Diplo retaliated by posting nude images of her online. Diplo has denied all of her allegations. The competing civil cases remain active and unresolved.
Attorney Statement
Bryan J. Freedman, Diplo’s attorney, shared a statement with Pitchfork, stating: “We are all extremely pleased for Wes and his family. What happened here is simple. The arbitrator looked at all the facts. She evaluated the evidence impartially. And justice prevailed.”
